WWII Story: Enemies or Victims?

bombed building in Germany

While it is important to remember the horror of the concentration camps and the atrocities Hitler perpetrated upon the world, war is horrible from every vantage point. I know it's hard to feel sympathy for the Nazis, but this story has helped me remember that not all Germans were Nazis. Many were just victims of their times in the same way that many refugees are today.

Too Clean? What Are We Leaving Behind?

It's easy to go overboard about clean. If folks downsized their carbon footprints to triple-extra-small, someone would still be at them with a wipe.

Planned Parenthood

These days, Republicans seem to want to privatize everything except the personal things that should be private. The government shouldn't have the right to control how we choose to maintain our physical and mental well being. We have partners, family, friends, clergy, and counselors to support us in those decisions.

Mañana: 14 Years of Beautiful Tomorrow

The snow had just started falling and it was the first time I had ever driven in snow. The party was at a house rented by several young men. One of them owned a female dog that was half Golden Lab and half German Shepherd. Another had a male dog that was half Doberman and half Greyhound. My kids were three years apart. On the day my youngest started pre-school, it was the first time in six years that I had a few hours completely to myself.

Cabbage Patch Kid

The year Cabbage Patch Kids came out, it was the only thing my daughter wanted for Christmas. Her Christmas wish was my only experience in Black Friday shopping. We fought the crowds and looked everywhere for one and everywhere was sold out.

Before we brought home our Airedale puppy, Bailey. We researched dog breeds to be sure our puppy had the right temperament, the right health requirements, and that he would grow to the right sized dog. One thing we didn't research is how quickly poo can pile up from one little puppy. The EPA estimates that one dog can excrete 274 pounds of waste per year, depending on what and how much the dog eats. We think Bailey reached that limit in his first 6 months!
