Some people call them "Bark Collars" but, barking collars don't bark and aren't only used to stop dogs from barking. They are shock collars. Their sole purpose is not to train but to punish undesirable behavior with pain.

Are You a Parent Bully? Punishment vs. Discipline

fighters

Punishment, either mental or physical beats up a person or brings them down. Discipline teaches self control. Parents weren't meant to bully their children with punishment. We are meant to teach our children to learn social norms and control themselves within those norms.

The Importance of Second Opinions: A Lazy Eye Experience

doctor giving advice

For many years, I was intimidated by doctors. I grew up thinking the doctor was always right. I have a crooked little finger that resulted from a doctor telling my mom it wasn't broken. It apparently was. It wasn't until I had children of my own that I learned the value of getting a second opinion when you have any question at all about your doctor's diagnosis or the treatment he or she may recommend.

Grass Roots Gun Sense

too much going on in this world for us to hibernate

Pharma by Design: Designer Diseases and Drugs

Cannabis is illegal because it can treat cancer, PTSD, seizures, anxiety, glaucoma, and depression which means no money for pharmaceutical companies

While congress stalls on legalizing marijuana, big pharma continues to lead both consumers and the medical community down the garden path of designer diseases and their companion drugs. Because big pharma cannot claim development of marijuana, they have no promise of financial gain and therefore no reason to execute an unbiased and comprehensive study.

WWII Story: Enemies or Victims?

bombed building in Germany

While it is important to remember the horror of the concentration camps and the atrocities Hitler perpetrated upon the world, war is horrible from every vantage point. I know it's hard to feel sympathy for the Nazis, but this story has helped me remember that not all Germans were Nazis. Many were just victims of their times in the same way that many refugees are today.

Freedom from Religion: The Light at the End of the Tunnel

light at the end of the tunnel

Atheism isn't a choice. It's a realization and once I fully understood that realization, my lack of belief became a cause for celebration. Atheists are often portrayed as doubting, unhappy people, but actually losing religion is a joyous thing, the real light at the end of the tunnel.
