The snow had just started falling and it was the first time I had ever driven in snow. The party was at a house rented by several young men. One of them owned a female dog that was half Golden Lab and half German Shepherd. Another had a male dog that was half Doberman and half Greyhound. The two dogs got together and ended up with a family of 7 puppies. The boys managed to find a home for 6 of them, but there was one left over.

There is no reason why parents cannot bring their children up to choose a life based on fact rather than one based on faith yet, still allowing them to share in the beauty and diversity of other cultures and ethnicities including their differing religions. Although we may not adopt a culture's religious beliefs, we can still enjoy and even share in their customs.

In the movie, Paint Your Wagon, Ben Rumson calls his depression "Melancholy". He tells "Pardner" to solace him when that happens, but giving solace to someone in the throes of depression can be tricky.
Approach them one way and they are irritable — the other way and they are despondent.

At one point or another, every parent hears their child say, “I didn’t meant to” or “I didn’t try to.” Sometimes all that is needed is a nod and a, “I know. It’s okay.” Other times something more is called for. One of my favorite responses was “You didn’t try not to.”
