The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High students are reminding us that youth can speak to power, can foment change, and that it is a force to be reckoned with. These young survivors of the Parkland massacre bring firsthand authority to the gun debate and are showing the adult population how to solve problems.

At one point or another, every parent hears their child say, “I didn’t meant to” or “I didn’t try to.” Sometimes all that is needed is a nod and a, “I know. It’s okay.” Other times something more is called for. One of my favorite responses was “You didn’t try not to.”

Atheism isn't a choice. It's a realization and once I fully understood that realization, my lack of belief became a cause for celebration. Atheists are often portrayed as doubting, unhappy people, but actually losing religion is a joyous thing, the real light at the end of the tunnel.
